All family medicine house officers!
The endowment covers reasonable expenses associated with conference attendance, research pursuits, and away rotations. Typically, this includes airfare, hotel, and the conference fee, but in some cases may also include transportation (i.e. uber to/from the airport).
Any time!
The Alvin Johnson Steward, MD Fund is an endowment available to residents for financial assistance with pursuing educational opportunities. The department receives an annual distribution from this endowment and spreads the funds out fairly among those who request assistance.
This endowment helps our residents pursue educational opportunities that they may not otherwise be able to due to financial barriers.
Send an email to Amy St. Amour (astamour@med.umich.edu) detailing what you are hoping to do/attend, and an estimated budget of your anticipated expenses.
The amount of expenses covered depends on how many other requests have been made for financial assistance, but the department will work to assist as much as they can accommodate.
Residents are expected to send a thank-you note to the donor sharing your gratitude, what you learned, and why the experience was important/impactful. This can be in the form of an email or can be handwritten - either way, you should send it to Amy St. Amour, who will then ensure it gets to the proper person.
You must use your annual CME funds first before you are eligible to receive donor support from this fund
You cannot book your own flights - UM policy only allows flights to be booked through their own website, so Stacey/Tyler will work with you to do this. You can book your own hotel/pay for conference fees and submit these for reimbursement.
