Furniture cannot be purchased by faculty or staff through Amazon or via the Marketsite- purchasing must go through the Facilities Planning and Construction department.
Furniture cannot be brought to campus from home or personally purchased and brought onto campus.
At the University of Michigan, Floor Coverings, Furniture, and Window Treatments are Restricted Commodities and purchasing is limited to select individuals and departments. These purchases are restricted due to facility codes and regulatory issues. On the Dearborn campus, that responsibility falls to Facilities Planning & Construction and its Interior Designer.
In their selection of furnishings, Facilities Planning & Construction is responsible for meeting all codes that apply to higher-ed but also needs to make sure the items are durable, practical, and will look current into the future. Furniture includes not only typical furniture pieces like chairs, tables, desks, etc., but also whiteboards and cork/fabric (bulletin) boards
For more information on the furniture and furnishings purchasing process or to view the current task chair options available, please see the Facilities Planning and Construction page HERE.
To request the purchase of furniture or furnishings, please submit a Special Project or Furniture Request Form.
The campus does house a limited supply of surplus/used furniture at the ROC. Viewings of the inventory at the ROC are scheduled for every third thursday of the month at 2:00pm. If you'd like to join an updcoming viewing, please submit a Special Project or Furniture Request and we can add you to the list of invitees. Please note that you must be registered by the Monday before the scheduled viewing to attend that month's viewing.
