Your guide to where you'll live, eat, and probably get a little (or a lot) lost at first
One of the first big steps in your Michigan journey is figuring out where you're going to live, and let’s be honest, where you’re going to eat. Dorm life is such a core part of your freshman year, and knowing what to expect can make the transition feel way smoother.
This section breaks down all the dorms on campus: where they’re located and which ones have dining halls attached
Let’s make your home-away-from-home feel a little more familiar.

I met my absolute best friends in West Quad my freshman year. I came into Michigan knowing nobody. I had met my freshman year roommate Olivia on Facebook and we had texted and facetimed, but other than that, I knew absolutely no one. From the beginning of the year, we always had our door open. I know it sounds corny when everyone tells you to do this, but it really does help you make friends in your hall. Now, not everyone gets quite as lucky as I did with how incredible my hall/dorm was, and that is okay! Everyone finds their people eventually. The first few weeks/months of school are spent hanging out with different groups of people while you try to find your way. Olivia and I did not meet the people we now call our best friends until the the second or third month of college. I would say that the best way to meet friends at the beginning of your freshman year is to leave your door open and just walk around the halls on all of the floors and try to meet as many people as possible. Invite people to hang out, go on a walk, pre game, grab a snack, literally anything. You will find your people! Try not to put too much pressure on it at the beginning!!
