What is the Clinical Peer Mentors Program?
The Clinical Peer Mentors (CPM) Program is a paid summer opportunity that gives biomedical engineering students the ability to do needs finding firsthand while observing doctors in a variety of settings such as clinics and operating rooms
The CPM Program teaches students how to successfully identify possible areas of improvement in the medical field and the work of the CPMs is used as projects for the BME 451/452 Capstone course
What Clinical Peer Mentors Do
What Clinical Peer Mentors Do
- Observe and collaborate with healthcare providers in a variety of fields
- Scope existing unmet needs for potential BME capstone design projects
- Prepare design project proposals for BME capstone design courses
- Develop informational materials for the BME design program, e.g. clinical handbook reference guides, videos)
- Support additional BME design program needs (OR chaperones, LBME space, website, BME design team consultant, etc.)
Qualifications
Qualifications
Commitment to work ~30 hrs/wk during the summer and ~2 hrs/wk during the following Fall and Winter semesters
Strong teamwork, leadership, time management, and communication skills
High level of professionalism, sensitivity, and ethical decision making
Dedication, entrepreneurial mindset and problem solving skills
Strong enthusiasm for design, needs finding, and/or clinical environment
