Sample response letters

If you receive an email from CSHPE because you receive more than internship offer and need to decline all but your most preferred offer, due to the 'two-day rule,' you may consider using text similar to that below. You do not need to accept an internship at this time, but can continue to consider it as you finalize your graduate school decision.

For most preferred active offer you have received, if not your top internship from the entire pool of placements:

Dear [Names of members on the hiring team],

Thank you for the offer for the internship with [unit name]. I enjoyed learning more about opportunities available in this position, in particular [insert examples]. As I continue to confirm my decision regarding where I will attend graduate school, I am excited to continue considering this internship placement. I will decline my other offers now.

This internship is my most preferred CSHPE placement. If I attend U-M, I will accept this offer!

Thank you again for this opportunity.

For most preferred active offer you have received, if this is your top internship from the entire pool of placements, but you have not yet accepted your offer of admission at U-M:

When accepting your most preferred offer, if you have confirmed your offer of admission via wolverineaccess.umich.edu and know that you will attend U-M:

Dear [Names of members on the hiring team],

Thank you for the offer to work with [unit name]. I am have accepted my offer of admission to the University of Michigan and am pleased to accept this internship! I'm excited to join your team and look forward to being in touch as next fall gets closer.
