Welcome to the information page for CSHPE internship placement!

For incoming incoming MA students in the Higher Education program for fall 2022

*IMPORTANT: The deadline to apply to 2022-2023 internships is February 17*

The internship experience is a critical component of the Higher Education master’s degree program in the Center for the Study of Higher and Postsecondary Education (CSHPE) at the University of Michigan. Internships provide an opportunity for you to engage in valuable hands-on work experience that complements the knowledge you gain through coursework. Internships also provide an hourly salary that helps to cover a portion of your cost of graduate study.

Full-time students enrolled in the CSHPE master’s degree program are expected to complete a two-semester paid internship in a professional office related to higher education, either at the University of Michigan or another postsecondary institution. The graduate internship is a part-time position in which students work an average 10-20 hours per week. Internship salaries range from $14 to $20 per hour (they do not provide tuition remission or health insurance). Occasionally a student will opt to complete an unpaid internship.

Due to COVID-19, some aspects or all of your internship may take place in virtual format this upcoming year. Whether your work will be place in-person or remotely will be determined closer to the start of the next academic year.
