This summer for my Upward Bound Career Exploration I had done a lot of different things, from more hands on work to writing letter to those who where stuck at home during quarantine. I had interviewed a professional and even got interviewed by a friend. I got to explore my options on different occasions. But most of all I had fun doing it!
For Career Exploration this year, I volunteered to writing letters to the elderly in retirement homes around my community. I also made other crafts such as jars with positive quotes and painted rocks to send to the retirement homes or to give to someone just to spread hope, love, and positive thoughts during this scary and uncertain time.
For Career Exploration, I volunteered at my local Fire Station. They didn't have anyone to take care of maintenance, cleaning, or basic secretarial work, so my dad and I partnered up so to speak (really, he let me in and taught me how to do stuff). We took care of air packs, tested equipment, created new and more efficient ways of logging what worked and what didn't, and we helped our neighbors around the station.
I am Mikayla Goodwin and for career explorations this summer I painted rocks and left them out for people to find. My experience as a whole was amazing and I really enjoyed my time!
