Individual Capstone
Abstract
The curator will explore self identity by diving into topics such as Asian culture, traditions, and history, aiming to connect with not only other people who may have grown up differently due to immigration, but to promote confidence in those who otherwise feel like they ‘don’t fit in’, and distigmatize Asian culture by educating those who aren’t familiar with it. Methods of research include studying and deepening one’s understanding of Asian history, pulling artifacts from the curator’s own home, childhood memories and experiences, and specifically using traditional Chinese painting techniques. Interviews or discussions may be held with the curator’s family in order to get firsthand accounts of the immigrant experience, and life growing up in a foreign nation. The result will be a collection of collages containing real pieces of the curator’s culture that represent a big part of the curator’s identity, that when combined together will create a coherent piece.
