Event Logistics 2/18/25, Bel Air lounge, Furin Crafts
#visualart #crafts
Today I attended the furin craft and chat taking place in Bel Air lounge. I found the overall experience very fun and relaxing, after having worked all day. I didn't expect many people to be there, but to my surprise the table was full, with people already working on their charms by the time I got there. I enjoyed working on similar crafts with everyone, even though we were all working on different designs and in our own spaces, I liked the company they provided. Reflecting on the experience, I might not have been the proudest of my work, but looking at other people's designs and ideas fueled my creativity. This goes to show how we work better when we are together, even if we are just sharing the same space. I think this connects with Art Scholars in a way that we are always working together, doing team building activities, and projects. My major also involves a lot of team exercises, projects, and presentations, as this will be a big part of my career too. I'm glad I got to practice this skill today. We can do much greater things if we all work together as one unit instead of alone.
Event Logistics 3/7/25, Bel Air Lounge, The Art of Block Printing
#visualart, #printing #crafts
Last Friday, I attended the block printing craft and chat with a friend. I enjoyed the presentation the host gave in the beginning that detailed not only how to do the printing, but also the origins of block printing, its cultural significance, and different styles of blocks used. The instructions were helpful, and though I was not very successful getting the prints to be clear on my cloth, it was still a lot of fun relaxing and chatting with my friend and the people around me. Overall, I enjoyed the activity, even though I wasn’t as happy with the result of my craft. I think learning about different culture’s crafts and trying them out is a great way to expand your thinking, as it allows you to build off of many different ideas in order to create something new and great. This connects with how I appreciate how the Art Scholars program is making us try so many new things. I would have never even thought about trying some of the activities we’ve done in class, such as dancing or improv. I enjoy the fact that this makes me come out of my comfort zone to explore new arts related topics.
Event Logistics 3/28/25, Bel Air Lounge, Make-and-Take

I originally intended to attend the clay jewelry craft and chat that was in the CCC last Friday. But the TA announced that since the clay was crumbling and not suitable to work with, we could not do the crafts. We spent the next 15-20 minutes just chatting and hanging out, with some people playing games on the laptop projecting on the wall. After that we were asked to move back to the Bel Air lounge for a free for all craft and chat. Using the supplies in the arts closet, I made an illustration of cats on construction paper using some dot paints we found. Though it wasn’t exactly what I expected at the time I’m glad we still made good of a not-so ideal situation, and persisted through the small hiccup. I would even go as far to say that I had just as much fun that I would have gotten out of the original craft and chat. I think this ties in with the class we had in art scholars about improv. The free for all craft and chat was not something planned, but by thinking on our feet and improvising with what we had, we still had a good time.
