Event Logistics: (9/5/24, Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, Silent Disco)

My experience at the Silent Disco was very interesting. I remember going in expecting something totally different, because I’ve never heard of such a thing. The first room with all the lights glowing with different colors was a surreal experience. It was beautiful, but the brightness of the lights contrasted with the dark room made me a bit dizzy. When I put on my headphones and went outside into the courtyard, I was greeted with a big stage with DJs, and many other students wearing headphones and dancing. Looking back on things, it might not have been my kind of party, but I still thought it was pretty cool to have different channels to switch to, with everyone listening to something different. Even though we were all on different channels, I still felt united with the rest of the crowd as we just enjoyed the disco. I also thought it was interesting that since all the music was in our headphones, we overall produced a lot less noise than a regular disco would. I think that this concept can be useful for people who don’t like certain types of music, don’t enjoy loud sounds, or just want to vibe to their own things. I can see more discos implementing this feature, since it’s fun and also considerate of people who are around the area.
Event Logistics: (9/10/24, Artistic Impressions Mural)
#painting #mural #drawing #visualart
The Artistic Impressions Mural was a nice, chill experience. I only stopped by for a bit, but the atmosphere was very relaxed, with music playing in the background and people chatting. I made a few doodles of cats, mushrooms and flowers on the side of the paper. I remember not knowing most of the people in the room, yet feeling connected with them because we were united by a single purpose, to fill the paper with drawings. I felt like I could see everyone’s individual personalities just from what they drew and how they drew it. I think this activity is definitely a fun way to bring people together, especially with those who like the arts. It’s an easier way to be social for people like me, who don’t talk much but love to draw. Even if drawing and painting isn’t your thing, it can help you bond with other people through the experience. This has inspired me to commit to attending more events, to see more people and get myself out there. Just from this event I feel a bit more connected to Art Scholars, and I want to see if I can create more bonds through events like these.
Event Logistics (10/15/24, Needle Felting Craft and Chat)
#visualart #needlefelt #artsandcrafts
I had never done needle felting before and wanted to try it, so I thought that attending this craft and chat would be a great opportunity. I ended up having a lot of fun making a miniature version of my cat, and I may even look into doing more needle felting in the future. This activity was definitely my favorite out of the three TRYatholons, and I loved attending it. I think these crafts and chats are a great way of trying new artistic mediums, and I’m glad there’s so many options to choose from. I think this relates to our class in Art Scholars about the question “What is Art?”. Art can take the form of many mediums, needle felting being one of them. There are so many different forms of art, you could even create your own new form of art medium. The possibilities are quite literally endless. It’s probably not possible to learn every single form of art there is, but branching out and trying new things like different paints, sculpting or even dance can open your mind. It can be a bit overwhelming at first, but the knowledge and skills you get from it really pay off.
