Biography & Personal Statement
Grace Marshall is a sophomore from Frederick, MD with a major in English Language and Literature (concentration in writing and rhetoric) and a minor in Professional Writing at the University of Maryland. Her interests include writing, reading, editing, dancing, yoga, being outdoors, and mental health advocacy. She aims to become a copywriter, administrator or production manager, and believes that everyone should know how to write and communicate effectively and authentically. Grace believes that writing is grounding, unifying, and creativity—the crucial place of art in society—hones identities. She, herself, finds mindfulness in crafts like crocheting, embroidery and painting.
As a College Park Arts Scholar, Grace explored this concept of mindfulness and meditation's impact on mental health through her capstone project entitled "Where Your Feet Are: A Digital Collection of Guided Meditations & prompts to script your own." As a RecWell yoga instructor she will continue to share her project in hopes of it making an ongoing impact to her students. It was also Grace's interest in publishing that prompted her project; she is the Editor-In-Chief of The Paper Shell Review: UMD's annual journal of critical literary essays.
