9/10/24, Clarvit Studio & Courtyard, Photon Motin
#visualart, #film, and #presentation.
For this event I went to a showing of Proton Motion. This was a video that was projected onto a wall in the Clarvit courtyard. The video would show the fantastic images and movements of light the artist who created the piece had found. The artist was able to find ways to bend and manipulate light and record the photons from the light. The imagery that was made from these experiments with light were very interesting and thought provoking. As I watched the projection, I listened to some psychedelic rock, which the artist said that most psychedelic rock bands used these types of imagery as a background for concerts. I felt that this type of art was very interesting and I enjoyed the visuals very much. I would watch and think about the ways the shapes, colors, and vibrancy of the photons made shapes in my head and how sometimes the thing that I was thinking the image liked could change in a few moments. I think that this art form could help me understand more about my engineering major. For example it shows me that sometimes there can be more than one to solve a problem and you can have different views on an issue depending on your current situation. Also it taught me that experimenting by just messing around and trying something new could lead to something amazing and inspiring. I would recommend this artist and their works to people. I feel that this event was a good and relaxing experience.
Event Logistics 10/9/2024, Bel Air Lounge, Craft and Chat
#Craft&Chat, #Friendship Bracelets, #Movie
In this event, I attended a craft and chat held by Art Scholars in the Bel Air Lounge. The purpose of this craft and chat was to create a friendship bracelet and see some new or familiar faces. Most of the people attending this event were in their first year of art scholars, so I was able to see some of the next group of art scholars and see what they are like. I also got to experience how to make a friendship bracelet. This event connects to what we learned in Art Scholars colloquium since it forces us to interact with people and see what other people’s interests are, which, as we talked about in class, is something that we have to think about when working on our capstone projects. As we develop our projects we need to keep in mind who this project's audience is and how to appeal to that audience, and I feel that the best way to understand our audience is to interact with others to see if they would fit into your audience and see what they would want to see come from the project. A similar thing can be said for engineering, in the sense that the engineer needs to examine how their product will affect their target audience or clients.
Event Logistics 10/25/2024 University Band Concert
#music, #presentation
For this event I chose to go to a concert held by the University Band in the Clarice Building. During the concert the University Band played four different pieces of music. I went to this event to support some of my friends that were in the University Band. When I was watching the band play and listening to the songs, I started to ponder how this all came together. I thought about how the members of the band are not all music majors and just have an interest in playing. Students from different backgrounds and different studies would come together every week to rehearse and practice their parts in the various songs they learned. Also the pieces of music themselves had to go through much to get to this concert, they were all created by different people with different inspirations and messages and found themselves in front of the University Band’s director. Finally, the director made sure that the pieces of music were played in the way they were meant to be played in the concert. I feel that this was a great showing of teamwork and collaboration, which is a very big part of engineering. When working on a huge project or feat of engineering, such as a rocket ship, engineers have to work together like a band. You will have someone who is in charge of everything, like a composer, breaking up the project into parts for people who have different technical abilities and making sure everything turns out correct in the end. Then you have the many groups of engineers working on different sections of the project, like mechanical and electrical engineers working on things that they are specifically knowledgeable about, like how strings, winds, and percussion work together for a piece.
