Event Logistics Feb 13, 2024, Bel Air Lounge, Valentine Day Chocolate Making
#Chocolate, #Teamwork
In this event I got to meet some of the other people in art scholars, learn something new, and have fun making chocolate. The goal of this event was to make chocolate hearts for Valentine's Day, we were broken up into groups of four and then given chocolate discs. As a group we had to melt these chocolates, pour them into a mold, and then decorate them. We chose to use heart shaped chocolate mold, made the chocolates with a mix of milk chocolate and white chocolate, and decorated them with sprinkles. One of the things that we had to be careful about when melting the chocolate was to melt it in intervals so that the cup containing the chocolate didn't melt as well. This event showed me that teamwork is a very great way to find ideas and solve problems, we didn't know how we were going melt the chocolate to a right temperature or what kind of chocolate we wanted to use or even if we were going to use sprinkles but we came up with ideas and solutions to these issues as a team and made some great chocolate. Teamwork can help groups solve problems quickly, and help design the final product or outcome you are working towards. In engineering we use teamwork a lot to quickly finish projects, reassure calculations, create new ideas, and have different views on a topic.
Event Logistics 3/13/2024, Clarice, Interview with Meshell Ndegeocello
#music, #artist and #interview
In this event, I got to witness and take part in an interview with Meshell Ndegeocello, a musical artist. Before the interview began Meshell went around the room and introduced herself with everyone, and was surprised when she got to me and found out that I was an engineer and thought it interesting that I was there, but was still glad I had attended. Then the interview began, it was a very casual interview, the interviewer would ask Meshell questions about her life and some of her views on music and other things. Then the interview was open to the audience to ask questions. Meshell's answers to these questions were really interesting to me, and the way she approached the topic was also interesting. She likes to go with the flow but if the flow is going some way she doesn't like she speaks her mind about it, and I can relate with that. I am usually a laid back person but I know when to speak up and this is something very important for everyone to do. Especially to engineers, this is important because speaking up can change the final design of a project, or the calculations, or the ideas or views of the group. Another important skill is to be able to answer questions with confidence and your own view, being able to give a strong and unique opinion. This event showed me skills that can help when dealing with a group, an interview, or life.
Event Logistics 3/28/2024, Outside Bel Air, Trinkets and s'mores
#food and #community
In this event, I got to interact with the art scholars' community and get a tasty snack. This was an event held by the AAB and was open to all art scholars. When you arrived you had to sign in with one of the AAB members and then you were given a big square marshmallow, some graham crackers, and some Hersey's chocolate, as well as a big wooden skewer to roast your marshmallow. Then you go over to the grill that had a fire going but people were having trouble keeping the flames lit. The usual trick that I use to cook marshmallows is to wait for the fire to calm down and then go close to the hot coals, which as usual gave me a nice golden brown marshmallow which was perfect for the s'more. After making our s'mores, me and another art scholar student set off to find the eggs for the egg hunt. There were eggs hidden all around the Cambridge community, but after our first walk around we were questioning if there were actually any eggs, but on our second look we found three of the eggs. Finding ways to connect to your living community is an important skill to have, you should get to know the people around you and who you share a building and art class with. This was a fun event and I hope that in the future that there are more events like this one.
