Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization that helps families build and improve places to call home. As a volunteer, I am tasked with managing the store's day-to-day operations, going out on the Restore truck for donations, and building/fixing furniture.

My service to Logan Elementary involved speaking with the elementary school children about what they hope to be in the future, their likes and dislikes, and their favorite activity to be engaged in. I also encouraged and spoke to them on how attaining a college degree can, in whatever career they hope to follow, be beneficial to them.
Teamwork: Managing the store and collecting donations to the organization requires a lot of planning and team effort to make the experience/task very successful.
Flexibility: Since the tasks to be completed are numerous and diverse, I would develop the flexibility to adapt to various work demands. I also anticipate working with and interacting with people from different backgrounds and age groups.
Community Engagement: I would be engaged with the Habitat for Humanity community and supporters, maintain the store inventories, gather donations, and so much more.
Civic Agency: I would interact and problem-solve with supervisors and other volunteers toward the organization's mission.
Capacity for Reflection: This would be my first social volunteer experience, and I am positive that it would give me a new perspective on being a global citizen and my contributions to society.
My grand challenge in restoring and improving urban infrastructures relates to the mission of Habitat for Humanity. As a volunteer, I had the opportunity to be an active member in the restoration and preservation of historic homes and communities and provide shelter assistance and education to communities affected by disasters. I also helped customers to load their purchased items from the warehouse to their cars.
My service to Logan Elementary has a weak connection to my chosen grand challenge.Â
I had a wonderful experience working as a volunteer at Habitat for Humanity Columbia Restore warehouse. Everyone that I worked with including the store managers and the other volunteers was very kind and helpful. My service was very fulfilling because I felt that I gave back to the community in some way.
