Undergraduate Domestic Fellowships

The following fellowships provide funding for undergraduate-level study within the United States.

Please note: fellowship titles written in blue are available to international students. Fellowship titles written in black are available to US citizens only. Undocumented, DACA, US National, and Green Card eligibility is noted for fellowships that specifically state it in their guidelines. If Undocumented, DACA, US National, or Green Card eligibility is not explicitly stated in this database, that does not necessarily mean you are ineligible. Please check fellowship websites for more specific eligibility guidelines.

All-USA Academic Team Scholarship

The All-USA Academic Team is a recognition program for exceptional full-time undergraduates at four-year institutions in the USA and its territories. Recipients named on the First Team each receive a trophy and a $2,500 cash award. Forty more runners-up named to the Second and Third Teams receive certificates. Deadline: late-November.

American Nuclear Society Fellowship

The American Nuclear Society regularly awards funding to students enrolled in a course of study relating to a degree in nuclear science, nuclear engineering, or a nuclear related field. This fellowship is open to US and International students, so long as they fulfill the class requirement. Campus deadlines are typically in early January or early March, and national deadlines are typically in early February or April, depending on the desired scholarship.

This scholarship is open to international students.

Armenian Students Society Scholarships

The Armenian Students Society offers scholarships to undergraduate students of Armenian descent that are enrolled in four-year undergraduate degrees. The ASA scholarships offer funding in all areas of study, so long as the student is of Armenian descent. Campus deadlines for these scholarships are typically in mid-February, and national deadlines are typically in mid-March.

The Armenian Students Society scholarships are open to US citizens and international students that have appropriate documentation to study in the United States.

Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship (US Nationals & Green Card Eligible)

The Goldwater Fellowship is available to sophomores and juniors pursuing an undergraduate degree in the natural sciences, mathematics, or engineering. This scholarship provides funding up to $7,500 per full academic year. National deadlines are typically in late January, and campus deadlines are typically in late December.

The Goldwater Scholarship is open to US Nationals and Green Card holders, as well as US Citizens.

BMI Foundation Scholarships

The Broadcast Music Incorporated Foundation provides fellowship and scholarship opportunities to student composers, songwriters, musicians, and those interested in broadcast media. Some geographic and age restrictions apply to these awards. Deadlines for fellowships are variable, so it is up to the applicant to determine when the appropriate deadline will occur.

International Students are eligible for the BMI Foundation fellowships.

Carnegie Endowment for International Peace Junior Fellows Program

The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace Junior Fellows Program is open to graduating seniors that are eligible to work in the US. The fellowship provides funding for a 12 month internship as a researcher for a senior Carnegie fellow in Washington DC. National deadlines are typically in mid-January, and campus deadlines are typically in mid-December. Applicants must be nominated by UMASS Boston. The Carnegie Endowment Junior Fellows Program is open to individuals that are authorized to work in the United States.

Center for Strategic and International Studies Internships

The Center for Strategic and International Studies offers full and part-time internships in the fall, spring, and summer for undergraduates and recent graduates who are interested in gaining practical experience in public policy. These interns take place in Washington DC. National deadlines are variable depending on which internship cycle the applicant is applying for, so it is up to the applicant to determine their national deadline.

Charles B. Rangel Summer Enrichment Program

The Rangel Summer Enrichment Program is a six-week summer study at Howard University that aims to help undergraduate students foster an appreciation for global affairs and help them prepare for careers in international relations. This program encourages the application of members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service, women, and those with financial need. Students live at Howard University, attend classes, and participate in a variety of programs with foreign affairs professionals at Howard and at diverse locations around Washington, DC. Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors are invited to apply. National deadlines for this program are typically in early February, and campus deadlines are typically in early January.

The Rangel Summer Enrichment Program is open to US citizens only.

Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund (DACA and Green Card Eligible)

The Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund provides up to $15,000 of funding annually to undergraduate students that are involved in movements contributing to social change, and demonstrate financial need. Students must be enrolled at an accredited four-year institution, and must be active participants in an activism initiative. Funds can be used for general education expenses. The national deadline for the Davis-Putter scholarship is generally in early April, and the campus deadline is generally in early March.

International students are welcome to apply, so long as they are participating in activism within the US.

Echoing Green Foundation Fellowship

The Echoing Green Foundation Fellowship provides seed funding and support to more than 450 social entrepreneurs with bold ideas for social change in order to launch groundbreaking organizations around the world. The fellowship awards a stipend of $60,000 for individuals, or $90,000 for 2-person partnerships, in four equal installments over the course of two years. Applicants must demonstrate sufficient English fluency. The application cycle typically opens up in April, and the national deadlines are typically in late October through November.

Elie Wiesel Prize in Ethics

The Elie Wiesel Prize in Ethics is an essay contest for full-time enrolled seniors that awards up to $5,000 for a submitted essay that reflects on an ethical issue. This prize necessitates a faculty advisor to endorse the applicants work, so it is up to the applicant to appeal to a faculty member to act as their advisor. The deadline for the Elie Wiesel Prize in Ethics is typically in mid-January.

Harry S. Truman Fellowship

The Harry S. Truman Fellowship provides funding for a master's program that will lead to a career in public service. The Foundation defines public service as employment government at any level, uniformed services, public interest organizations, nongovernmental research and/or education organizations, public and private schools, and public-service orientated nonprofit organizations such as those whose primary purposes are to help needy or disadvantaged persons or to protect the environment.Applicants should be in their junior year of their undergraduate degree. The national deadline for the Truman Fellowship typically falls in early February, and the campus deadline typically falls in early January.

The Truman Fellowship is open to US citizens only. Unfortunately, DACA and Green Card holders are ineligible for this fellowship.

Finlandia Foundation Fellowships

The Finlandia Foundation offers fellowships valued from $1,000-$3,000 to students of American and Finnish descent that have completed at least their freshman year, and are continuing in their studies at either an American or Finnish Institution.. While the Finlandia Foundation Fellowships are open to all disciplines, special consideration is given to students whose studies are related to Finnish-American culture. National deadlines are generally in early February, and campus deadlines are typically in early January.

The Finlandia Foundation Fellowships are only open to citizens of Finland and the United States.

Finnish Cultural Foundation Fellowships

The Finnish Cultural Foundation Fellowships seek to promote and develop cultural and economic life in Finland by providing grants to individuals and groups working in the sciences and the arts, and to people and organizations in other fields of intellectual and cultural endeavor. Grants are awarded annually from the Foundation's Central Fund and 17 Regional Funds, as well as various donor funds. Deadlines are variable, so it is up to the applicant to determine which of the four quarterly deadlines is right for them.

The Finnish Cultural Foundation gives preference to Finnish Nationals, however anyone is welcome to apply given they can prove that their work serves to demonstrate strong ties to Finnish culture.

Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship

The Herbert Scoville Jr. Fellowship provides recent college graduates, as well as graduate students, with the opportunity to work for 6-9 months in Washington DC with a participating organization while receiving a stipend. Undergraduate students are welcome to apply, so long as they graduate before the beginning of the program. Prospective Fellows are expected to demonstrate excellent academic accomplishments and a strong interest in issues of peace and security. Graduate study, a college major, course work, or substantial independent reading that reflects the substantive focus of the fellowship is also a plus. Prior experience with public-interest activism or advocacy is highly desirable. National deadlines are generally in early October or early January, and campus deadlines are generally in early September or early December.

The Scoville Peace Fellowship accepts applications from international applicants, so long as they are living in the United States and can obtain the appropriate visa.

International Automation Association Educational Foundation Scholarships

The International Automation Association Educational Foundation offers scholarships to both graduate and undergraduate students enrolled in a degree program that show promise of long-term contributions to the field of automation. Scholarship awards support tuition and related expenses and research activities and initiatives. National deadlines are typically in mid-February, and campus deadlines are typically in mid-January.

The Jack Kent Cooke Transfer Scholarship provides funds for high-achieving community-college students that are looking to transfer to a four-year institution. John Bayliss Broadcast Foundation Radio Scholarship

The John Bayliss Broadcast Foundation Radio Scholarship awards scholarships in the amount of $5,000 to undergraduate juniors and seniors majoring in broadcast communications. Preference is given to students that have an extensive history in radio-related activities. National deadlines are typically in early spring, and are awarded for the following fall semester.

Kosciuszko Foundation Scholarships (Polish and American Citizens Only)

The Kosciuszko Foundation offers multiple scholarship opportunities for study in the United States to undergraduate students that are US citizens of Polish descent, or Polish citizens with permanent residency status in the US. Scholarships are awarded in all subject areas. It is up to the applicant to determine which application is right for them, and the associated deadlines attached to their selected scholarship.

The Kosciuszko Foundation Scholarships are only open to US citizens of Polish descent, and Polish citizens with permanent residency in the United States.

MacDowell Colony Residencies

The MacDowell Colony offers six-week residencies to artists pursuing work in the following subject areas: Architecture, music composition, film and video, interdisciplinary art, theatre, visual arts, and literature. Artists are provided with their own studio, accommodations, and three prepared meals a day for up to six weeks. MacDowell residencies are open to applicants of all ages, however students actively enrolled in a degree program are unable to apply, as they are typically receiving funding from their university. Applications deadlines for the Fall/Winter cycle are typically in early February, and application deadlines for the Spring/Summer cycle are typically in early September.

Margaret McNamara Memorial Fund Grants

The Margaret McNamara Memorial Fund awards grants up to $11,000 to women of at least 25 years of age from eligible countries that are pursuing a full-time degree program (undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral tracks accepted) at an institution that they are already enrolled in. Part-time students are accepted to the South Africa, Latin America, and Trinity Washington University programs. For the US-Canada Program, Applications are accepted between September 15 - January 15. For the Trinity Washington University Program, applications are accepted between September 15 and January 15. For the South Africa program, applications are accepted between May 15 to September 14 each year.

Mayo Clinic Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF)

The Mayo Clinic Science Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) awards funds to undergraduate students who have completed at least two years of study, and are seriously considering a career in biomedical research, to complete a summer study at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. Ideal applicants will have a grade point average above a 3.0 and are currently attending a US institution. This program runs from the end of May through the beginning of August. National deadlines are typically in early February, and campus deadlines are typically in early January.

National Association of Black Journalists Fellowships and Scholarships

The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) offers a wide range of fellowships and scholarships to young Black journalists that are enrolled in graduate or undergraduate degree programs. Awards cover subject areas from digital storytelling, to photography and visual journalism, to sports broadcasting internships. Norway-America Association Scholarships (Norwegian Citizens Only)

The Norway-America Association (NORAM) offers scholarships for undergraduate students that are citizens of Norway to study at an American institution that has partnered with their program. A competitive applicant will have good english skills, completion of Norwegian upper-secondary school, and relatively good grades. This scholarship funds study in all subject areas. Deadlines are variable depending on the program, so it is up to the applicant to determine where they would like to study, and the deadlines associated with that institution.

The Norway-America Association Scholarships are only open to Norwegian citizens.

Open Society Institute Fellowships and Scholarships

PPIA Junior Summer Institute Scholarship (Green Card & DACA Eligible)

The Public Policy and International Affairs Program offers scholarships for the Junior Summer Institute, which is a rigorous academic preparatory course for juniors interested in pursuing a career in public service. Scholarships cover all tuition costs, most meals, travel assistance, academic materials, and a stipend for incidentals not covered by PPIA. The national deadline for this scholarship is generally in early November, and the campus deadline is typically in early October.

The PPIA Junior Summer Institute is open to US citizens, US residents, and DACA recipients.

International students are only eligible for the JSI hosted at Carnegie Mellon, Princeton, or University of Washington. International students must be enrolled at a US institution.

Roothbert Fund Scholarship Program

The Roothbert Fund Scholarship Program offers scholarships to undergraduate students in the United States that those in need of financial aid to further their education. The Fund seeks candidates motivated by spiritual values. Preference is given to students that are attending university in Connecticut, District of Columbia, Delaware, Maryland, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia. Grants are typically $5,000 to $7,000 and may be renewed for subsequent years. The national deadline for this scholarship is typically in early February, and the campus deadline is typically in early January.

International students are welcome to apply for this scholarship, and immigrant status is not taken into account when applying for this scholarship.

Samuel Huntington Public Service Award

The Samuel Huntington Public Service Award provides $20,000 stipends for graduating college seniors to pursue one year of public service anywhere in the world. The award allows recipients to engage in a meaningful public service activity for one year before proceeding on to graduate school or a career. National deadlines are typically in mid-January, and campus deadlines are typically in mid-December.

Southeast Asian Summer Studies Institute Tuition Scholarships

The Southeast Asian Summer Studies Institute (SEASSI) offers partial scholarships to graduate and undergraduate students for its immersive language studies program, which takes place every summer at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. SEASSI offers courses in Burmese, Hmong, Indonesian, Khmer, Lao, Filipino (Tagalog), Thai and Vietnamese to students with a vested interest in studying their target language, or pursuing a career where knowledge of the target language is required. National deadlines are typically in early April, and campus deadlines are typically in early March.

Student Academy Awards

The Student Academy Awards are a film competition sponsored by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences that judges and awards student films within the following categories: Narrative, Documentary, Animation, and Alternative/Experimental. Gold, silver, and bronze medals are awarded, along with prize money. Eligible films must have been made by a student enrolled in full-time or part-time in a degree-granting program, and be no more than 40 minutes long. Please check the website linked below for full eligibility requirements. National deadlines are typically in early June, and campus deadlines are typically in early May.

Udall Scholarship (US Nationals & Green Card Eligible)

The Udall Foundation awards scholarships to college sophomores and juniors for leadership, public service, and commitment to issues related to Native American nations or to the environment. This scholarship provides up to $7,000 for qualified school-related expenses, as well as the opportunity to attend a 5 day summit for Udall Scholars in Tucson, Arizona. The national deadline for the Udall Scholarship is typically in early March, and the campus deadline is typically in early February.

The Udall Scholarship is open to US citizens, nationals, and US permanent residents.

UNCF Scholarships and Grants

The UNCF offers various fellowships and scholarships to student pursuing higher education at the undergraduate and graduate levels. UNCF awards over $100 million in funding to eligible students. All need-based scholarships require a FAFSA on file, and most merit scholarships require a FAFSA. Deadlines and eligibility criteria are variable, so it is up to the applicant to determine their eligibility and associated guidelines. Scholarships are awarded year-round.

University of Pittsburgh Summer Undergraduate Neuroscience Research Fellowship

The University of Pittsburgh Summer Undergraduate Neuroscience Research Program is open to undergraduate students interested in pursuing a career in neuroscience research. This fellowship funds a 10-week summer study at the University of Pittsburgh, and allows students the opportunity to investigate nervous system function under the careful guidance of university staff. Housing is provided for students. This fellowship is focused on research, so students interested in pursuing careers in clinical medicine may not necessarily be competitive for this fellowship unless they can demonstrate a potential role for laboratory-based research in their career outlook. National deadlines for this fellowship are typically in mid-February, and campus deadlines are typically in mid-January.

The University of Pittsburgh Summer Undergraduate Neuroscience Research Program is open to international students, so long as they can provide official authorization for Optional Practical Training (OPT) from their home institution.

Worldstudio AIGA Fellowship (Green Card Eligible)

The Worldstudio AIGA Scholarship awards scholarships in the amount of $2,000-$3,000 to underrepresented and economically disadvantaged undergraduate and graduate students studying in the fields of photography, illustration, and design.
