Karuth Silver Cultural Center
A center for the UMass disability community
Mission Statement
The Karuth Silver Cultural Center brings to light disabled perspectives on disability justice, education, and liberation through the hosting of events, dissemination and organization of resources, and advocacy for systemic change. We aim to create a justice oriented and supportive campus community for disabled people and allies where our voices are heard and our oppression recognized.
Who Are We?
The Karuth Silver Center is a a cultural organization for disabled students, faculty, and staff at UMass Amherst as well as any community allies. We position ourselves to be a safe, intersectional, comfortable, and inclusive space that is separate from Disability Services and Accessible Workplace. To achieve this work, we ally ourselves with the other cultural centers on campus, share resources, and create opportunities for mentorship and conversations around disability identity.
The KSCC is an organization of disabled people to explore what it means to be disabled in society while supporting and empowering one another. It is not a service organization to "work with disabled folks." We are here on our own terms in our own space.
Everyone is welcome - including allies!
