Democracy depends on active citizen participation. But it can be difficult to identify ways to get involved. Through this initiative, we hope to connect you with groups both on campus and in the broader community doing the work of mobilizing and organizing for political change. This diverse array of organizations focuses on a range of issues from voter registration, get out the vote, community organizing, union action and much more.
You can learn more about them here, and meet some of their representatives at our Constitution Day Reception on September 17th from 3:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. in the Integrative Learning Center's Communication Hub (3rd Floor).
We are proud that 75% of UMass students voted in the 2020 elections, up from 54% in 2016. The average voting rate for all academic institutions in 2020 was 66%. Higher rates, in part, reflect the fact that students were home during the pandemic and able to vote locally. Our challenge as a community is to make sure we let our diverse voices be heard again this election cycle. We encourage students living away from their voting districts to register to vote and request absentee ballots well in advance!
