The Universiti Malaya graduate employability figure has maintained above 90% since 2019. This is a testament to the quality of teaching and the strength of the program, as well as the potential for every student going into the industry.
A Building Surveyor offers specialist services on matters relating to building and property development such as project and construction management, maintenance and repair of building, refurbishment and restoration of old properties, building law and regulation, demolition works and property development. A competent Building Surveyor is expected to manage, organise, supervise, monitor, evaluate, and coordinate every aspect of building and development work and act as a vital link in the project between all affiliated professions such as architects, engineers, planners and builders. Besides that, Building Surveyors also provide liaison and consultation services aith public and local authorities for the client.
A fresh graduate from Building Surveying Department is able to get their place at any government department that related to the job scope of a building surveyor itself. For instance, work as a building controller at the Building Control Department at any JKR. Other than that, they also able to get their place in facilities management department. There are many other works that our fresh graduate able to get in the Government Department.
Researcher usually makes research related to the building or built environment field. (e.g. ; Research about the best method of constructing a project ) . Work as a researcher usually force them to make many readings and research to amend the problem and provide the best way in any process or method of construction or anything related to the field.
Project consultants contribute their operational, strategic, or technical expertise to projects. They collaborate with clients to determine project parameters, develop project plans in line with business objectives, and assign project tasks and resources. They also monitor the progress of each project stage and facilitate necessary interventions.
A project developer is a professional who manages the operations of a project. A project developer performs project design and development activities according to customer specifications, works with Manager in developing project plan, budget and schedule, coordinate with management in preparing project proposals and contractual documents, track project progress regularly and develop status reports to management, ensure that project is completed within allotted budget and timelines, follow company policies and safety regulations for operational efficiency, do research and recommend new technologies to carry out project development tasks, provides assistance to other Developers, perform peer reviews and provide feedback for improvements and develop cost reduction initiatives while maintaining quality and productivity.
Some of our student even works for banks, not as accountant but as the bank's property asset manager responsible for the upkeep and maintaining the value of its asset. Many other organisations also employs our graduate in similar capacity to manage their physical asset.
In the context of Building Surveying, the type of insurance that most probably will handle by them is Home Insurance. The Insurance Company will offer any package that related to the building (e.g. ; house). For example, a package of insurance that cover the cost of any damage that cause by natural disaster. Besides that, the Building Surveyor that work for any Insurance Company will inspect their client's property to claim the accurate amount of compensation from the package of insurance that they has subscribed.
A General Contractor, or Construction Contractor, oversees all aspects of a construction project from start to finish. Their main duties include hiring and training Subcontractors, applying for the necessary licenses and building permits and providing hands-on supervision and guidance to workers on the site. The other duties of Construction Contractor is to keep the project on the appropriate timeline, manage subcontractors and labor related to the job and order materials related to the build and work with the vendors to ensure the correct deliveries are taking place according to the timeline.
