UIndy's Office of Inclusion & Equity (OIE) has developed a process called the Bias Incident Reporting & Protocol to specifically address any bias incidents that occur on campus, University-owned property, or at University-sponsored events occurring off-campus. When students report a bias incident, the OIE will initiate the protocol and provide support through the process.
Bias incidents can also occur off-campus within a community on a local, national, or global level. However, students do not always have the resources and support to cope with off-campus incidents. While there are University Services available, there is very limited access to immediately available resources, which is how the idea for this guide came about.
Whether on or off campus, bias incidents can affect the daily functioning of a community, which as a result can affect each individual’s functioning within that community as a ripple effect. The purpose of this guide is to support daily functioning and well-being for students who are going through the Bias Incident Reporting Protocol and/or processing bias incidents in general.
Daily functioning for general well-being include the following:
Activities of daily living (i.e. self-care, hygiene, eating, paying bills, taking care of pets, etc.)
Education (i.e. being a student, doing homework, attending class, etc.)
Leisure (i.e. hobbies, extracurriculars, going to the gym, etc.)
Social Participation
Rest & Sleep
Work
Play
The guide was designed for students to be able to access convenient and supportive resources in one place no matter where they are or what device they are on.
