WELCOME TO FRENCH 101!
French 101 is a four (4) credit hour class. It meets on campus, and one credit hour is fulfilled with asynchronous online learning materials.

In this introductory first-semester class conducted in French, you will build skills in spoken and written French, practicing and reviewing with online materials, textbook activities, writing projects, readings, films, and speaking activities. You’ll learn more about the diverse Francophone (French-speaking) cultures around the world by interacting with texts and films from a variety of time periods and places.
By the end of French 101, you’ll be able to…
Demonstrate a basic knowledge of French and English grammar
Understand native French speech within the limits of your vocabulary
Communicate with native French speakers on a variety of practical topics (writing and speaking)
Get the main idea of newspaper and magazine articles, poems, and stories written in French
Have some insights into how languages work in general
Show a greater understanding of francophone (French-speaking) cultures and of American culture as seen by native speakers of French
You will also be able to effectively use a variety of learning strategies useful for other classes and situations
