I am a mixed medium artist. I use sculpture, painting, screen printing and photography to document aspects of my family and community. In the process of creating each piece I gather images, mufflers, clothing, and other artifacts that relate to the relationships I am exploring. This documentation may include screen printing, as well as mod-podging images and text directly on to surfaces. Found objects may function as canvases or materials for constructing sculptural forms or even clothing. Because making art can be extremely wasteful, I try to repurpose items that connect to the people I am documenting.
Art was a form of therapy for me as a child before I understood what therapy even was. As I struggled to make sense of the dynamics around me, and the way my relationships occupied space, art grounded me and helped me make sense of how I was feeling. I now feel drawn to explore my family members and their past and current lives and cultures. Art allows me to make interpretations and renderings of them and my own thought processes, as I explore this rebirth of myself.
These images are documentation of my piece that I worked on with acrylic and pen by painting and drawing directly on to the muffler. I used a hot glue gun to add the clear glue to the background to appear almost as water.

Here I documented a purse that I made out of a modelo cardboard box. I closed the sides with blue lace and added small details to the bag like the keychain picture and the acrylic paint image of my father by the handle.
