Artist Statement
If we know a subject does that mean we also believe in it? If we believe in a subject does that make it true? In my art I study how characteristics of a group, social class, or individual can reflect their belief systems. Embedded in all of this I am fascinated with where truth is understood to rest on a pendulum moving between Knowledge and belief. Is truth absolute or is it constantly moving from person to person?
Observation and engagement of my own personal knowledge and beliefs are my starting point for beginning an art piece. I play with figures, forms, and layers. I often create textures to embed my art with information. I work through exhausting my pieces with layering in different mediums to represent the passing of time and collection of knowledge. When creating art I enjoy pushing the images to ultimately relay stories down into a one point perspective at first. Then I push the images to break past the barrier of the one point perspective in order to exhaust and maybe spark curiosity for my audience with displayed information.
My projects are about capturing moments from the present and the past. I am trying to understand the world we live in, and when trying to understand, I connect emotions to tactile sensations in each art-work.
I unapologetically play in the world I live; bending, testing, twisting and looking. What am I looking for? I believe art is a translation of what we all are looking for in this world; the absolute Truth. Art is a reflection of humans' search for Truth and meaning. I want each viewer to be overwhelmed with information through their senses when viewing my art work. Knowledge is constantly being consumed by humans and is always subjective and objective based on what the individual knows or see’s, but the absolute Truth can't be subjective or objective or it wouldn't be true. My art is a reflection of my search for absolute Truth; searching, bending, testing, looking, and following the God I believe to be that absolute Truth.
