About Us

The UIC-SRC is the university’s full-service testing and research laboratory. It has three functional objectives: 

1. to provide UIC science faculty and students with technical assistance and extensive hands-on training on sophisticated equipment; 

2. to provide professional analytical services to external clients at nominal fees; and 

3. to undertake in-house and externally funded health- and environment-related research.

The UIC-SRC offers chemical, physical, and microbiological testing and research services primarily for water/wastewater and food/feeds. Agricultural samples (such as soil or sediments, leaf or plant tissues, fertilizers), pharmaceutical/cosmetic and other samples are also accepted for analysis. It is manned by licensed chemists, registered chemical technicians, professional food technologists, a pharmacist, a medical technologist, and a biologist.

Originally named as the Science Research Center, the office was created in November 1994 to serve the instrumentation needs of the Pharmacy Department. Inaugurated in June 1995, it was later renamed as the Science Resource Center to provide laboratory testing and research services to internal (UIC faculty and students) and external (industry, academe, government and non-government agencies) customers.

The UIC-SRC is a DENR (Department of Environment and Natural Resources) - recognized environmental laboratory since 1996, a DOH (Department of Health) - accredited water testing facility since 2001, and a PRC (Professional Regulations Commission) Board of Chemistry - authorized chemical laboratory since July 27, 2018.
