Educational Assistants work with classroom teachers and special education staff to discuss and outline the content and focus of pre-recorded digital instructional supports for students. Digital pre-recordings can provide a student with the ability to independently access instructional support. There are a few tools that are used to support this work in the UGDSB.
Greeting the student at the beginning of a learning block
Walking a student through what to expect in the next learning period (E.g., video review of visual schedule)
Modelling how to use a specific learning tool/task
Presenting the choices the student will have to pick from during the next instructional period (Choice Boards)
Video/Audio: Reading of a song, rhyme, story for a student using student specific cueing techniques
Provide body breaks for individual students, either online or on site in schools, could be pre-recorded or live
Adding Voice Notes to student work is a great way for students to hear your voice, reminders and to review instructions. This strategy allows students to listen to the voice note as many times as they need and builds more independence in their ability to engage in learning.
Recording your own screencast video can be a great way to engage students in learning. You can deliver your own personalized message, invite a student to complete an activity 'with' you online and even walk a student through their day or an activity.
