My name is Olivia Suite and I am from Thomasville, Georgia. I am a third-year Journalism student at the University of Georgia, where I cover Athens life. I am pursuing certificates in News Literacy and Nonprofit Management & Leadership, as well as a minor in Political Science.
While at the University of Georgia, I hope to use my unique perspective to share stories through a lens of empathy and compassion. During my time as a journalism student, I have had the opportunity to interview students, professors, and business owners who are working to make a difference in Athens. As a first-generation college student and American, I aim to continue using my voice to amplify those who are underrepresented in journalism.
Currently, I serve as a Freshley small group leader and as a member of the Diversity ministry at the Wesley Foundation. I have found my involvement with these organizations to be immensely valuable in developing key leadership skills. After college, I hope to apply everything I learn here at Grady and work for a nonprofit organization. I am deeply passionate about helping marginalized people amplify their voices and showing them their value in spaces where they often feel unseen.
In my free time, I love to travel, read and walk with friends. My mom is from England, and my dad is from Trinidad, so I’ve been fortunate to travel a lot growing up.
