The role of coherences between atomic dipoles has gained an ever-increasing importance with the advent of ultracold atoms and large trapped ion systems. These allow to generate and manipulate correlations and entanglement between the particles, with many consequences for both applications (e.g., quantum information) and for the study of fundamental properties of matter. Light is the most important and versatile tool to manipulate matter in a controlled way, allowing today to address and manipulate single emitters and their respective coherences.
This workshop addresses the properties of these many-body systems at the frontier between the microscopic and macroscopic realms. The coupling between light and an ensemble of classical or quantum scatterers, and the induced classical and quantum correlations, will be intensively discussed through lectures and informal discussions. The main topics of interest are listed below:
Cooperative scattering
Anderson localization of light
Dicke super and subradiance
Mesoscopic physics with cold atoms
Multiple scattering of light
Ab initio models for light scattering
Collective optical forces

Venue
The island of Porquerolles can only be reached by boat from La Tour Fondue or Toulon. A bus leaving from Nice airport (terminal 2), on Sunday 9th of October at 14h15, and going at Tour Fondue (haven) will be arranged.
Regarding the ferry from Tour Fondue to Porquerolles island, please find the timetable on the following link. The participants should purchase their own tickets (it can be done online or on site).
The workshop will be held at the IGESA center. The accommodation in the IGESA structure will be proposed to the participants.
