North Florida Peanuts
Florida is one of the top producers of peanuts! In Columbia County about 4,000 acres of peanuts are grown every year. The peanuts produced in North Florida are used for peanut butter, next years seed, peanut candy, and peanut oil. On this page you will learn about making peanut butter, parts of the peanut plant, and interesting facts about the plants history in southern agriculture.
BOILED or ROASTED, PEANUT BUTTER or PEANUT CANDY- are just a few ways you can enjoy eating peanuts! But there are also other important uses for the famous PEANUT.
Peanuts are used in making food like mayonnaise, salad oil, cream cheese, and candy. They are also used in beauty products like lotions and shampoos as well as cleaning products. And we can not forget that peanuts are used is gas, glue, dyes for clothes, and diesel fuel.

Feeling Like a little Giving?
Collect jars of peanut butter and get them to your local Extension Office. Have the whole class participate and/or make it a competition between classes! Jars are being accepted at all County Extension Offices in Florida through November 25, 2020. Help us combat hunger through donating unopened jars of peanut butter!
