Creating a video project with Microsoft Movie Maker was an interesting experience. The storyline was designed to be a simple, informative video for kids to give them a brief overview of what backyard chickens need. I started the project by taking 20+ photos and 15+ videos of the chickens throughout the day and into the early evening when they go to roost. I used multiple angles and perspectives (like the shot from under the elephant ear plant). I then wrote and recorded a narrative. In Movie Maker, I uploaded the medley of photos and videos, then added the narration to the timeline. From there, I changed the order of the photos and videos to match the timeline. I edited by cropping, creating a freeze frame, and zoomed in/out. Ken Burns effects were applied to videos of the dog and the outdoor water station. Additionally, I added transitions, effects, titles, and credits.
The biggest challenge was in editing the videos to match the narration. I was unable to find a way to view a frame-by-frame of any video. This slowed the process, but I was able to complete the editing by duplicating and trimming as needed.
Overall I am pleased with the results. I was able to create an information video for young kids who have never been around farm animals. This was the first time that I have ever created a movie from a montage of photos and video clips. In the future, I would like to learn more about editing the mini videos frame-by -frame. I know that this is the most effective way to edit and although I was able to edit in other ways, learning more about this would be my goal prior to starting another project.
