This event flyer was created using GIMP. It was designed as a marketing tool to invite potential adult education students to a "Meet and Greet" with me. The flyer's background was selected from a group of photos taken from one of my "outdoor classrooms." Text was kept to a minimum. The overall design was created to avoid visual clutter.
The event's details are included as text placed above a layer of gray bars, which have had opacity increased. The candid photo of myself was chosen to represent the non-traditional nature of my adult education business. The blue text was chosen to contrast the gray bars and to complement the color of the lake. The white text was chosen to contrast the blue sky and to complement the clouds. The gold text was chosen as it is a complementary color to that of the back side of the lake. Papyrus font was used to give the flyer a casual vibe.
All text and shapes were intentionally placed in the top left quadrant to avoid having too much noise or clutter. The close proximity of all text creates cohesion. Bold text was utilized to draw the viewer to the name and date of the event.
This logo was created using inkscape. It was designed for my educational business, Reach and Learn. I wanted the image to be simplistic and classy, with just a little bit of “edge,” hence adding the shapes within the circle. I chose to incorporate them because to me they represent the variety of adult students and their unique struggles, and they effectively utilize the design principle of repetition.
The design principles of contrast, alignment, and proximity were integral. Contrast in coloring was used to offset the text from the circle, as well as the circle from the background. Contrast in text size was also used. “LEARN” is the largest, depicting the goal of my business – to help people learn. I chose to feature this text vertically and let the “Reach and” lead the viewer’s eye toward “LEARN.”
Proximity and alignment were used to keep the edges equidistant from any objects and/or text, as well as the space between the circle and “LEARN.” The top and bottom of the circle and the word “LEARN” are vertically aligned.
In the overall creation of the logo, I am satisfied with the amount of white space. In terms of design, this logo achieved the intended design goal that I set out to achieve.
This infographic flyer was designed using Canva. It was created for my educational business, Reach and Learn. The statistics on adult literacy are of importance to my career and the infographic was intended to present them in a visually appealing presentation. The color selection was intentionally limited to a variety of greens and white so as not to detract from the somber statistics. The design flow was top to bottom, with each set of statistics separated from the rest. Text was kept to a minimum, allowing the visuals to relay the information. Simple frames were used as a way of dividing sections, as was negative space. A combination of chart icons was used as a way to visually represent statistics (people, diplomas, and percentage icons). A simple map of Florida counties was presented, along with a “top 10 list” in text format. The top 10 counties were identified on the map by a red dot, allowing viewers to immediately recognize how the counties were concentrated in specific areas. Red was chosen as it is easy to see without getting lost and provides a contrast to the color scheme without being a distraction. Banners were used to distinguish the National v Florida averages. Spacing and white space were instrumental in the design.
I am pleased with the final product and may utilize it in marketing presentations and/or classroom display. In marketing, this infographic helps to convey the need for adult education. In the classroom, it indicates to each student that they are not “the only one” – a presumption often held by adult students in this educational environment.
This cube was created with LunaPic. It was created by cropping the flyer into three distinct sections: event name, event date & location, and background. Each section was then saved as a separate image. These were then each added as a side to create the rotating cube animation. The final product was saved as an optimized gif file.
I was blown away at the result. This is definitely a program that I will make use of in the future!
