Class overview
Educational multimedia is a way to bring technology into the classroom or other learning environment in such as a way as to enhance learning and teaching. For me, educational multimedia is a tool that is helpful in teaching, training, and a way of connecting with students. I am fortunate in that I have had the opportunity to share some of the projects that I have created in this course with many of my students. Seeing their reactions and listening to their critique impressed me with the value that multimedia brings to the classroom and to each student. I am inspired to continue to evolve as an educator.
EME3319 was one of the most rewarding and relevant courses that I have ever taken. Learning about Cognitive Load Theory, the differences between raster (bitmap) and vector images, design principles and the Ken Burns effect were foundational to being able to create effective educational multimedia.
The variety of programs and apps that were included in this course provided the opportunity to experiment with creating different types of educational multimedia as well as gaining an overview of what each had to offer. We were able to design images, infographics, video stories, tutorials and more.
Of the variety of programs used in EME3319, my personal favorites were LunaPic, Voki, Camtasia, and Windows Movie Maker. The skills that I gained from using these programs are skills that I will continue to develop. The Voki app is one that I will use to create presentations for my GED classrooms and add to my current website. Camtasia is an app that I know will be helpful in the classroom, with my virtual students, and in other business ventures in the near future. I will continue to experiment within this program to hone my skills effectively.
Telling a story by utilizing Windows Movie Maker was personally rewarding for me. It allowed me to show my creative side and bring personality to the presentation. Since I had never created a movie prior to this course, I was glad to acquire this newfound skill.
