Course overview

EME3044 was one of the most relevant courses that I have taken. As a seasoned educator, it opened my eyes to issues and trends outside of my current experiences. The assumptions and impressions of the educational technology field that I had going into this course quickly evolved. As an example, the opinions that I held about analytics were changed after delving into Learning Analytics and xAPIs and seeing how they applied to the unique education business that I have. And, I see how they will apply in the future of my business.

This course has left me with the impression that the educational technology field is one that is wide open! The opportunities are endless, and the evolution of the field parallels the technological advancements of our time. The applications of educational technology reach far beyond traditional schooling.  Their applications in business, in corporate training, and in the non-profit world are countless. For me, this means that the field is a game changer in that it opens opportunities within the unique educational niche that I have carved. It has shown me avenues in which I can expand my business and professional opportunities, as well as increase monetization.

EME3044 has allowed me to see that the field of educational technology includes tools that help in the classroom and tools that help analyze and construct/design. I would be remiss if I did not mention that the course is set up in a way to guide students not only through the material, but in how the material directly applies in one’s own career trajectory. Likewise, it was extremely helpful to learn that technology is not designed to be a one-size-fits-all in any environment. It was advantageous to explore and consider downsides to types of technology, particularly as they apply to one’s own career. The discussions were an integral part of this exploration. Through them, I was able to see potential benefits, or drawbacks, to website, technology and analytical tools. The organization, instruction, and feedback in this course helped make it a valuable resource to me professionally, and personally.
