In addition to choosing Latin, your student has also chosen a teacher who is passionate about teaching, teaching children, and teaching children Latin.
Your language scholar will have a plethora of FUN opportunities to became an aficionado of all things ancient.
As 7th graders, your student will participate in:
the celebration of National Classics Week
Latin students compete against Latin students in the other grades. In addition to the academic and athletic challenges, your student will have the chance to participate in a book drive and a letter campaign to local government.
a national Latin creative writing contest called SCRIBO
SCRIBO is an international Latin composition contest, designed to spur interest and excitement in using Latin for creative writing
the National Latin Exam (NLE)
The NLE is a 40 question multiple-choice test that features questions on a variety of topics including: grammar, comprehension, mythology, derivatives, literature, Roman life, history, geography and oral Latin.
the Philadelphia Classical Society (PCS) Latin Week Contests
Students submit original interpretations/representations of classical Greek/Roman mythology, history, archaeology or literature across nine artistic categories or sitting for an academic exam.
As 8th graders, your student will participate in:
the previously mentioned activities
Pennsylvania Junior Classical League State Convention @ Lock Haven University over Memorial Day weekend
SRMS students will compete against other PA students in all things Latin (academics, athletics, arts, talent shows, quizzo, and more!) (starting in 2020; 8th grade only)
