Looking back on my growth from freshman year to now, I can say with confidence that I am the person I am today due to the experiences I had as a Community Engagement Scholar. I am very thankful for my CE advisors who supported me through changes in my academic plan, like when I decided to graduate a year early and they helped me create a plan that would still allow me to be a Community Engagement Scholar. I was introduced to the world of public policy through my coursework for the CE scholar course of study. After taking UAPP110, I became extremely interested in public policy, and continued to take public policy classes. This eventually led me to add public policy as a minor, something that I wouldn’t have done without Community Engagement Scholars’ influence. I am proud of the research I have conducted through my various fellowships, and CE scholars equipped me with the tools and knowledge to secure those fellowships and excel in my public service research. I am also proud of the time I committed in the last three years to community service on top of my coursework and immersion experience. I plan on continuing to volunteer weekly with both Conversations to Remember and Exceptional Care for Children after graduation. To me, community engagement is engaging in public service which involves making meaningful connections and supporting beneficial change in the various communities that surround us. My plans after graduation are to take a gap year to study for the LSATs, and hopefully secure employment where I can continue to make positive contributions to the world around me.
