For this assignment I wanted to create instructions on how to load an Olympus Infinity Jr. I created my own instructions from scratch, making sure to adhere to the grid I created myself. I added a materials list, clear photographs, easy-to-read instructions, and straight-forward tips on how to load the camera with ease.
For this assignment, I modeled my new instructions off of a poster I saw on UD's campus. I mimicked the grid they used, and essentially copied over my instructions and photos to match the new format I had been inspired by. I used arrows when needed, incorporated fun colors and typefaces that popped, and included my own photographs taken on the Olympus Infinity Jr camera to show users what their photos could look like if they loaded the camera as instructed.
Final Thoughts:
This assignment was an excellent way to put my design skills to the test. I was challenged to take and use my own photographs, create my own original instructions and grid for the instructions and graphics, and teach audiences how to do a specific task that they might need in the future. It showed credibility in my ability to do this task and explain it in ways that all required audiences would be able to digest. I could easily combine my newfound design skills with my writing skills to create instructions I am really proud of. I used color theory, grid creation, and scannability tactics for this project.
