This term, you will be introduced to a range of life stories, including examples of letters, autobiographies and diaries, written by a diverse range of individuals. You will explore how life writing offers an insight into human nature and the diversity of human experiences. You will also learn about the value of creating meaning from your own lives through your own life writing.
1) You will be completing homework on a digital platform called 'Bedrock Vocabulary'. You will learn a wide range of new vocabulary, while reading lots of fiction and non-fiction and completing a range of activities to help you learn the words. You will be expected to complete two lessons per week (although more is encouraged) and this will be your homework throughout the academic year.
2) Each term, you will also be given a topic knowledge organiser. You should use this to revise the key knowledge, vocabulary and terminology in preparation for a knowledge test at the end of the unit.
SUPER-CURRICULAR CHALLENGES: Each knowledge organiser also has a section with optional super-curricular challenges. Broaden your understanding of the topic by completing some/all of these tasks and your teacher will reward this with achievement points.
This term you will look at the role of poetry to reflect our changing relationship with the natural world. You will also learn about the literary tradition of nature poetry and how history/experiences are conveyed through storytelling.
This term you will explore the Gothic genre and its place in literary tradition, with a particular focus on some of the pioneering female writers of the genre.
You will study a range of gothic texts, characters and settings before using these as a model for your own gothic short story writing.
