Breast cancer is the most diagnosed form of cancer among women globally
1 in 8 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime
Early detection methods include regular screening and mammograms. Genetic testing to identify "at risk" patients is common, and improvements to lifestyle habits can have an effect, but neither are a reliable way to predict breast cancer onset. There are no dependable treatments to eradicate the disease.
Ultimately, the only way to stop the disease from harming people at all is to aim to prevent the tumor from forming in the first place.
Breast anatomy includes muscle, adipose tissue, connective tissue, lymph vessels, lobules, and ducts as seen in the figures. The nipple is a sensory organ responsible for milk secretion, where ducts converge. The ducts, which can be an open system at various points throughout development, are where breast cancer often starts.
