We Are accepting donations for the Grad Lounge!
We tried and succeeded in getting some items for improving our space including a printer and a printing budget for us to use. However, additional one time funds were not approved due to budgetary constraints within the department. Part of this proposal we had to draw up floor plans to be approved by facilities management and the plans that were approved allow for a floor lamp or two, a plant, and two chairs. We could also then get a rug and perhaps some throw pillows as well. It might take some magic, but we can still get this to work. We ask you keep an eye out in your living environments to see if people are getting rid of furniture so we can capitalize on getting donations to our lounge. Below are some pictures and descriptions of things we are looking for. If you have or know where we can get any of these items either for free or as a donation, please email the chair. cmertzvega@ucsd.edu
We have approval to put 2 arm chairs in the lounge, they just can't be oversized lazy boy style. We want to put these where the mailboxes currently are.
The couches are sort of light blue in color so anything that might complement them is appreciated. We are seeking 2-6 throw pillows.
Any sort of floor lamp will add to the charisma and create a warm atmosphere especially if you're staying late and want to turn off the horrible neon lights.
An area rug for the 2 arm chairs mentioned above would help with comfort levels by allowing you to kick off your shoes and settle in with a nice book. Low pile and easy to vacuum will be necessary.
Being realistic, we probably need a fake plant (have you seen the live ones we currently have? Exactly... they're dead). A nice floor plant would soften the hard lines and corners of the room but still provide a sleek contemporary feel.
Principally, we need a small table or storage unit for under the printer station to house printing supplies.
Additionally, a small table for between the two arm chairs.
There is one caveat for the funding request... We may still put together a collage or mock up of book covers. I only need the artwork and we can begin working on something to put on the wall.
