Sea spray aerosols
The Center for Aerosol Impacts on Climate and the Environment (CAICE) is a Phase II Center for Chemical Innovation funded by the National Science Foundation (Director Kim Prather, UCSD; Co-Director Vicki Grassian, UI). CAICE investigators intend to explore the role of atmospheric aerosol in our changing climate from a fundamental chemistry perspective using both experimental and theoretical methods. The Grassian Group is using state-of-the-art chemical characterization techniques to investigate the composition, morphology, and reactivity of marine aerosols with the objective of increasing our understanding marine aerosol generation and evolution. The Grassian Group's efforts in collaboration with CAICE investigators at the University of Iowa (Professors Betsy Stone and Alexei Tivanski) tie into the educational and outreach activities as well as the three research themes of CAICE, that include:
- Aerosol Production and Chemical Complexity
- Chemical Reactions at Complex Interfaces
- Aerosol Climate Interactions
