Diffuse Reflectance Infrared Fourier Transform Spectroscopy (DRIFTS)

A Diffuse Reflectance Infrared Fourier Transform Spectroscopy (DRIFTS) cell is used to complement our suite of sample cells used in the Grassian research group for studies of reactive gas adsorption and surface chemistry of opaque solid samples that may have limitations with transmission FTIR spectroscopy. Diffuse reflectance is a highly sensitive surface analysis technique. The DRIFT system can be used either to analyze solid sample or to react the samples with different gases. Reactive gases can be introduced by using either a gas handling vacuum system or a flow system – the DRIFT cell has been designed to work in either mode. Furthermore, a heating element within the DRIFT apparatus can be used for sample heating over a wide temperature range.
