Part 1: Learn about UC San Diego teaching and learning communities.
Task: Read the instructions and follow prompts about UC San Diego's dashboard.
Instructions:
Research the following prompts to learn about the demographics of educators and of students.
Explore the UC demographic distribution of the student population race/ethnicity, gender, and parent education.
Analyze the UC demographic data of the student population with the UC San Diego demographics. What do you see?
Examine demographic groups among faculty members in your department. How does the faculty demographic compare to the student demographic in your department?
Review the demographic trends over the past three recent years for students and faculty in your department. What changes and patterns emerge from these data?
Reflect on the history of your discipline and its impact on marginalized groups. How has your field historically included or excluded certain demographics, such as women in STEM or underrepresented minorities in humanities? How has your field historically been overrepresented by certain students, such as women and students of color in education?
Part 2: Reflect on how teaching for equity is critical at UC San Diego.

How are data about faculty and student demographics informing that race and racism exist at UC San Diego and in your discipline?
What systemic factors might contribute to the disparities or trends you observed in faculty and student data at the university and in your discipline?
How is this module helping you to think deeply about teaching equitably to students, particularly if your students are underrepresented and over represented in your discipline?
