Meet the Professor

One percent of your course grade is allocated to meeting with the professor, and will take about 15 minutes of your time.  In the meeting, you and the professor will introduce each other and the professor will ask a couple of questions about you.  You should also think of a question in advance that you would like to have the answer to.  This could be a question about careers, your major, or even a question about the professor.  Questions about the course are OK, but you could ask those anytime.

To meet with the professor, you can sometimes catch him at an odd moment, but it is probably best to schedule an appointment, using the provided Google Appointment Slots page.  You can get to this from the course calendar (see this page), but you'll have to import this calendar into your calendar to see the appointment slots.  There are four slots available for each 15-minute meeting time.   If you would feel more comfortable bringing a friend from the class, please have them sign up at the same time as you in another of the three remaining appointment slots.

When you go to the appointment slots page, it may look something like this:

Clicking the "Next available appointment slot" link in the middle of the page will show you the next available appointments, something like this:

Those silver boxes are the appointment slots.  But we can't really tell what's going on.  So click the "Day" button near the upper right to see the Day view:

Here you can see that there four time slots available at any given time.  They are scheduled in 15-minute slots, which is why they overlap in this odd way.  Select an available time:

Google Calendar will automatically fill in your name for you in the "What" and "Who" fields.  Replace the Description with your Student ID number so that I can give you credit for this meeting:

And then, of course, click "Save" at the bottom to reserve your appointment.  When you arrive at the appointment, you may see the professor already talking to a few students.  Unless yours is the first slot of the period, it's possible he's just finishing up the previous meeting, so hang tight.  But if you arrive late, don't hesitate to walk up and check if this group is part of your appointment slot.
