The Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) is a national organization devoted to providing opportunities for bioengineers across the country. The BMES chapter at UCSD is a student focused organization that provides both career development opportunities and events as well as social activities and a mentorship program for all UCSD undergraduate students with an interest in bioengineering and bioengineering related fields. With nearly 100 members, the UC San Diego chapter of BMES was awarded the Outstanding Student Chapter Award 3 times, in 2017, 2020, and 2022.
UCSD BMES COMMITTEES AND EVENTS
Lab Expo is an annual, full-day research symposium organized by undergraduates for undergraduates that showcases the diverse research and lab work on the UCSD campus.
Translational Medicine Day expands the understanding of the new and upcoming discipline of translational medicine. The field takes a multi-disciplinary approach to discover new diagnostic tools and treatments to create effective, targeted therapies.
The Project Team promotes the development of technical skills in Bioengineering through workshops, project cycles, research opportunities and exposure to other engineering and medical schools and disciplines.
The Outreach Committee supports the local San Diego community by introducing Bioengineering and STEM concepts to younger generations at local K-12 schools and San Diego community events.
The New Student Committee provides a space for new and upcoming BMES members to gain confidence, form connections, and become a part of the bioengineering community.
Bioengineering Day is an annual event that celebrates UC San Diego's top-ranked Bioengineering department, its current undergraduate research, and the innovations in the rapidly expanding field.
