Michelle Khine, Ph.D., is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of California, Irvine. She is an acclaimed innovator and entrepreneur–well known for developing innovative microfluidic technology based on the children’s toy Shrinky Dinks. Her current work builds on this platform technology to develop low-cost monitoring solutions for healthcare. She is the scientific founder of 6 start up companies–Fluxion Biosciences, Makani Science, 100 Tiny Hands, Vena Vitals, Novoheart, Shrink Nanotechnologies–each aimed at addressing critical needs in healthcare and education. Makani Science is her most-recent startup (2022) working on making an easily accessible monitor for breathing.
