Abstract
Approximately 50.2 million people in the United States are affected by dry eye disease and the existing treatments are often topical with more than 80% wastage from the application. Our device, Optimistic, atomizes the eye drop into fine mist using an ultrasound transducer attached to the user’s eyewear. The microcontroller monitors correct drug delivery and tests have been conducted for the ultrasound transducer to deliver the right dose volume (15-20 μL), signal generator, and amplifier to output the right frequency. Further testing will be carried out to determine circuit design and scaling down the device. Promising future directions for the device include incorporating VR devices and expanding to meet needs for other eye conditions.
