Abstract
The manual and time-intensive nature of existing blood transfusion devices demonstrate a need for automated equipment in which the medic can be hands free while tending to multiple patients, specifically during a mass casualty. The time it took to manually inflate the pressure bag was ~26 seconds in comparison to the 12 V vacuum pump utilized in our device which had an inflation time of 19 seconds. Testing with water as the fluid transfused with our device displayed a flow rate of around 300-333 mL/min. We conclude that this design significantly expedites the blood transfusion process, making it easier for medics and emergency treatments. Future work could include utilization of smart technology and continuing to iterate the device to be at its most compact form.
