Abstract
There is a need for portable tracheostomy humidification devices for patients with respiratory complications. Using CAD software and 3D printing, we designed a water reservoir with a luer lock port, a housing unit for a piezoelectric atomizer, and the device housing. A peristaltic pump was employed to maintain water contact with the piezoelectric atomizer. In comparison to the previous prototype, we achieved complete portability, a 60% reduction in housing size height and 23% reduction in length, a 44.5% decrease in device weight, and a 10-fold reduction in noise output. Future work aims to enhance battery life, further reduce the housing size, and integrate a customized PCB for controlling the atomization rate.
