Abstract
The project aims to design a bioreactor capable of producing an osteochondral graft with native materials for replacement of osteoarthritic articular cartilage tissue. This iteration of the project successfully designed and validated methods for: 1) incorporation of chondrocytes in hydrogel environment, 2) creating a contoured bioreactor mold that follows femoral condyle morphology, 3) harvest and preparation of trabecular bone, 4) extraction of proteoglycan from cartilage tissue and 5) Ultrafiltration and condensation of protein solution. Future work is to devise a sequence for fabricating a osteochondral graft that incorporates mentioned advancements.
