Abstract
When patients have undiagnosed illnesses, oftentimes their clinician will request for them to track their data in hopes of being able to better treat their conditions. This information comes in many forms including wearable health trackers, medical devices, and notebooks for documenting their symptoms. While there is ample data to investigate, the documentation spans across many different sources, and this can lead to confusion for both the patients and the clinicians. MedDash is a website portal that aims to solve this problem by integrating data from different sources and displaying it in joined graphs and statistics which can be accessible to the individual as well as their provider.
To create this website, a group of fourteen students split into three sub-groups (Data Integration, Intake, and Visualization-Calculation. The Data Integration team worked on creating a login system and home page as well as utilizing API calls to aggregate patient data. The Data Intake team worked on a Diary Entries feature that allows patients to log events that might have caused fluctuations in their data. The Data Visualization-Calculation team worked on graphing wearable device data and a Health Habit Tracker feature where patients can create and track personal goals. While all of the features create a minimum viable product of MedDash, there are still a few improvements that could be made in the future. The improvements includes those from patient feedback as well as additional functionality (ie. allowing multiple profiles). Nonetheless, the sub-teams’ efforts show the potential to greatly benefit the lives of many patients who utilize the app. With some testing and more user feedback, MedDash can certainly meet the goal of helping any clinical patient understand their health data and get the necessary help they need from a doctor.
