Hi, I'm Megan (pronoun's: user's choice), and I am excited to be working with you this term as we explore the foundations of classical sociological theory. I am a real, live human being who is kind and approachable. You can rely on me to bring warmth and encouragement to your learning experience!
You can call me Megan, Professor Megan, Professor McNamara, or Dr. McNamara (I'm totally fine with first names, but if you just can't go there, you have options). I have a Ph.D. in Sociology from UC Santa Cruz. My teaching interests are quite varied. I teach a variety of lower- and upper-division courses here, including Intro to Sociology, World Society, Sociology of Emotions, Sex and Gender, Deviance and Conformity, Social Inequality, Sex and Gender, Sociology of Food, and Social Psychology. I also work with UCSC faculty across all disciplines on instructional design through my work with our Teaching and Learning Center. Outside of UCSC, I teach at Foothill College and West Valley College and I have a shocking number of cats.
Our teaching team members this quarter are Nadia Roche, Mai Awad, Dylan Tarleton, and Jared Gampel. They are all highly skilled graduate students and/or Ph.D.s in Sociology and or related fields who have spent years studying these texts. You will get to meet them when class begins, and you'll be working closely with them throughout the quarter.
