If you are a new transfer student to UCSC Sociology, you will find Canvas to be very intuitive and user-friendly. You will be submitting your work and viewing your lectures through Canvas. If you have not used Canvas before, I urge you to go through UCSC’s “How To” Canvas course for students. You can find it here: https://canvas.ucsc.edu/courses/33815
As far as textbooks are concerned, there is nothing you need to buy ahead of time. All of the readings for this class will be provided as PDFs posted on Canvas.
Once our Canvas site has been published closer to the start of the quarter, you’re welcome to log in and poke around to get a sense of what it feels like to interact with the platform by reading through the orientation materials. I will let you know when the site is available.
There is nothing you need to read or do ahead of our first meeting, although I do recommend reading through the introductory materials in Modules (everything up through, but not including, Module 1) once Canvas is up. On the first day of class, I will introduce you to the course and take you on a tour of our Canvas site so you know where everything is.
Take care,
Megan/Professor Megan/Dr. McNamara/Professor McNamara (I answer to any one of these 😊)
